Flooded by Storms, But Not Flooded by Hopelessness: A Teacher’s Testimony of Hope Anchored in God’s Faithfulness

This month has been one of the hardest yet most meaningful times I’ve had as a new teacher here in Teknotropheo’s Mission School, TLDC. I teach 17 students, 13 of them are Mangyan scholars and 4 are Tagalog students. Each one of them has a story. Each one of them holds a dream. For more than a week, we had no classes. The typhoon, locally called a habagat, brought endless rains that flooded many parts of our town. Roads became rivers, bridges were impassable, and homes, especially in the far-flung areas where most of my Mangyan students live, were surrounded by water. I couldn’t help but worry.  Not just about our lessons, but about my students.

“Kumusta na kaya sila?  Safe pa ba? May nakakain pa ba? (I wonder how they are? Are they safe? Do they have food to eat?)  When classes finally resumed, I didn’t expect much. I knew many families were still recovering, some still dealing with damaged homes or lost belongings. But that morning, as I entered the classroom, I saw something that moved me deeply.  They all came… One by one, my students returned. Some walked through mud with worn slippers. Others brought soggy notebooks and some had no bags at all. But they came, smiling, excited, ready.

Despite the floods, despite the struggles, they showed up.  At that moment, I realized: we may have been flooded by storms, but never by hopelessness. Feeding time became more meaningful. Our Mangyan scholars, some of whom came to school with empty stomachs, were energized again with every meal. And when we did devotions, the verses hit deeper. Somehow, after going through a storm, the words of hope felt even more real.

Being a teacher of these kids, I felt encouraged because behind every muddy footprint is a child who chooses learning over their comfort and struggle. Behind every quiet “Good morning, teacher!” is a soul hungry not just for food, but for purpose. For love. For a future. We were flooded by rains. Flooded by winds. Flooded by silence. But we were never flooded by fear. Never flooded by doubt. Never flooded by lost dreams.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.” — Isaiah 43:2

Bringing Joy and Color to the Community’s Youngest Members:

The VHM BLESS Center Initiative

VHM BLESS Center, Paombong

Last July 1, 2025, a medical mission was held at BLESS Paombong, where a volunteer pediatrician checked the health of the children. Every parent had a chance to make sure their kids’ health got the consultation it needed. Some of them had nutrition deficiencies, allergies, and most were underweight. However, good news also abounded, as some children were perfectly healthy!  The doctor gave the needed medicines and ordered some labs done for the children that need to get healthier.

In commemoration of Nutrition Month, a Poster Coloring Contest was held and every child participated. Even the parents were actively involved, as this event also served as a fundraising project. We were amazed by the results! Thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to raise enough funds to purchase additional school supplies for the children, office supplies for the center, kids’ vitamins, and materials for our upcoming Nutrition Month program. There were still some left-over funds that were also able to provide urgent financial assistance to several BLESS families who needed medical help or essential support during typhoons. God is indeed so good!

Igniting Passion: New Teachers Ready to Transform Lives Through BLESS

Four inspiring individuals, Jennelyn Dagalea, Ronalyn Agullo, Unice Alcanar, and Mary Ann Mesa underwent an intensive three-day training in Pampanga from April 22-24, 2025, to become “Master Reading Instructors” for the Vision Himpossible (VHM) BLESS program.

This comprehensive training not only honed their skills in phonetic sounding, storytelling, and proper writing, but also deepened their commitment to children and their faith.

Stories of transformation emerged, with Jennelyn, a stay-at-home mom, gaining newfound confidence, and Mary Ann feeling inspired and passionate about her purpose in teaching. Notably, Ronalyn and Jennelyn, both VHM BLESS parents, were so moved by the program’s impact on their own children that they felt called to become teachers themselves.

With powerful messages from Pastor Hooge on purpose, and from Kuya Leo on the vital role of parents and teachers, coupled with the unwavering dedication of BLESS Philippines Administrators Franz and Adelyn Garcia, these new teachers are now equipped and eager to touch the lives of countless more families through the VHM BLESS program, bringing literacy and hope to their communities.

A Journey of Faith and Triumph: Wilson’s Story

In 2021, Vision Himpossible Ministries (VHM) and its generous donors provided a crucial artificial leg for 9-year-old Wilson Ruiz, who was battling a rare form of cancer.

Despite facing a second amputation, Wilson and his family persevered with unwavering faith, as Wilson consistently declared, “God is my healer, Mama.” After nearly three years of treatment in various hospitals, Wilson was joyfully declared cancer-free in 2024.

Fast forward to April 2025, and Wilson not only graduated from Grade 10 but also received a Meritorious Award, a testament to his resilience. His mother, Gracechella, credits VHM Philippines for their profound impact on Wilson’s journey, expressing immense gratitude for their continuous love, support, and prayers. This remarkable story stands as a powerful testament to God’s glory and the incredible impact of collective compassion.
